
Pirates Place Second at Alex Lagowitz Memorial

Tait and O'Brien tie for ninth place overall as the Pirates place second overall.
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Graduate student Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) fired a 2-over-par, 74, in the final round for a top-10 finish and the Seton Hall men's golf team finished second at the 2021 Alex Lagowitz Memorial on Sunday.

Tait claimed his sixth career top-10 finish after using two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, No. 7 hole to fuel his third round. For the tournament, he shot a 1-over-par, 70-73-74-217, to tie for ninth place among 90 individual golfers. Tait finished just three strokes behind the individual champion, Colgate's Dugan McCabe.

As a team, the Pirates' "A" team climbed two spots in the final standings to second place after a 2-over-par, 290, in Sunday's final round. The Hall finished with a 13-over-par, 296-291-290-877, and placed 15 strokes behind the team champion, Yale.

Graduate student Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) continued to improve as the tournament progressed, using four birdies to finish the third round with a 1-under-par, 71. For the tournament, he tied for 13th place with a 3-over-par, 75-73-71-219.

Finishing two strokes behind Acevedo was teammate Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.). The senior used four birdies to fuel an even-par, 72, in round three, to finish tied for 19th with a 5-over-par, 76-7-72-221.

Completing his first tournament of 2021 one stroke behind Acevedo was junior Wenliang Xie (Chaoqing, China). Wen shot a 2-over-par, 74, in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 22nd place at 6-over-par with a 75-73-74-222.

Sophomore Alex Sun (Danville, Calif.) also had four birdies in his final round, finishing with a 1-over-par, 73. For the tournament, he tied for 31st place with an 8-over-par, 79-72-73-224.

Rounding out the Pirates' team "A," sophomore Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) shot his best round for the season with a 2-over-par, 74, thanks to four birdies. For the three-round event, he tied for 38th with an 11-over-par, 76-77-74-227.

Seton Hall's "B" team finished in a 12th place tie with Colgate's "B" team at 48-over-par with a 303-303-306-912.

Leading the way for the "B" team was newcomer Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia). The freshman tied Tait for the team lead with a 1-over-par, 73, on Sunday, finishing his first collegiate tournament with a 1-over-par, 69-75-73-217. His first tournament registered as a top-10 as he tied for ninth place overall.

Ian Lee (Johor, Malaysia) was the second-best golfer for the Pirates' "B" team for the tournament. She shot a 5-over-par, 77, in round three. For the tournament, Lee fired a 14-over-par, 78-75-77-230.

Hunter Ramee (Warren, Conn.) was consistent throughout the tournament, thing for 66th overall with an 18-over-par, 78-78-78-234.

Competing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Joshua Lee (Lantana, Texas) tied for 72nd overall with a 19-over-par, 80-77-78-235.

Senior Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) shot a 21-over-par, 78-76-83-237, while James Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.) rounded out the Pirates' scoring with a 29-over-par, 81-84-80-245.

The Course:
Named for the ancestral home of the Colgate family, Seven Oaks Golf Club is nestled on the Colgate University Campus at the upper end of the Chenango Valley, in Hamilton, New York. In 1934, a young architect by the name of Robert Trent Jones was brought to Hamilton to begin work on designing the course as one of his first projects. Unfortunately, due to the great depression and WWII, the course and his plans were continuously postponed.

Jones was called back many times throughout the following years to redesign the course before a final version was accepted and it was not until 1956 that ground was broken on the first nine holes, officially opening on July 4th, 1958. Construction for the remainder of the course soon began and on September 4th, 1965 the last nine holes were opened for play.

Seven Oaks is characteristic of all Jones' courses, which include strategic deployment of water, along with extensive tee areas and large, expansive greens.Â

In addition to Seton Hall and host Colgate, the field included 11 other schools:Â Bucknell, Cornell, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Rhode Island, Rider, St. Bonaventure, St. John's, Villanova and Yale.
